MUSIC THAT MATURES: TOP 40 - SONG #36 TO THE CROSS I CLING

"To the Cross I Cling" is the fourth song on Matt Boswell's album entitled Messenger Hymns Vol. 1.

"To the Cross I Cling" is a theologically rich song that presses our justification deeper into our hearts and minds.  Sanctification, our growth in Christ, can only go as far as our understanding of our justification, what Christ has declared us to be.

Martin Luther describes Christians as "simultaneously sinner and saint". There is a dichotomy with each Christian.  Sanctification is that process where we sinners saved by grace become more and more of what our justification says we are in Christ.

Pay close attention to the personal pronouns which aim to build us up in the faith. Belting out this song will build you up in your faith.  So what are you waiting for, start belting!

[Verse 1]
No day of my life has passed that has not proved me guilty in your sight
The best I have to offer are these filthy rags and yet you love me

[Pre-Chorus]
All things in me call for my rejection
All things in You plead my acceptance

[Chorus]
I am guilty but pardoned by grace I've been set free
I am ransomed through the blood you shed for me
I was dead in my transgressions, but life you brought to me
I am reconciled through mercy
To the cross I cling, to the cross I cling

[Verse 2]
No more am I a slave to sin, but bought with a price
Redemption that was purchased through the blessed cross
That You bore for me, You bore for me

[Chorus]
I am guilty but pardoned by grace I've been set free
I am ransomed through the blood you shed for me
I was dead in my transgressions, but life you brought to me
I am reconciled through mercy
To the cross I cling, to the cross I cling
